Idealized Design: Beyond Problem Solving
Presented by Neil Jansen

Description: As presented by Russ Ackoff in his book on this topic, "Idealized design is a way of thinking about change that is deceptively simple to state: In solving problems of virtually any kind, the way to get the best outcome is to imagine what the ideal solution would be and then work backward to where you are today. This ensures that you do not erect imaginary obstacles before you even know what the ideal is." This seminar will present the essential steps for applying Idealized Design through a series of classic examples, as well as through several simple examples from Aerojet Rocketdyne.

Target Audience: Designers at all levels of an organization who are not content with solving problems.

Organizational Issues: Organizations that are managed with a firm top-down hierarchy are less likely to command the attention of employees when exploring "idealized possibilities."

Objectives: Introduce the fundamental steps of "Idealized Design" and prepare attendees for a first application.
