John Morgan

Biography: You might say that John Morgan was born to heal organizations; or even that he is an experiment in improving society. In truth ever since he wore short trousers to school he has asked questions about why we organise things as we do, since he could see that they often don’t work out as we intended.

He enjoys working across and between organizations, encouraging cooperation and helping growing businesses to rediscover teamwork. Initially trained as a mechanical and production engineer, John says he has learnt from a broad mix of roles, from guiding a large hospital from reactive to preventative maintenance; coaching owners of small industrial businesses in management of reputational risks; helping a fossil-fuel based generating group adopt a more sustainable low-carbon path; and drawing together multiple government agencies to tackle anti-social behaviour.

John set up management consultancy Purpose First Limited to draw upon 30 years of experience as an in-house improvement agent in public and private UK organizations. And now that he has the perfect job, he claims that his family happily tolerate his frequent travelling to mix work, study and motorcycling (not necessarily in that order), as absence makes the heart grow fonder.
