Adrian Bass

Biography: Adrian Bass is the Director of the Capital Quality Initiative (CQI) at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan.  CQI’s mission is to inspire continuous improvement and excellence through learning opportunities for individuals and organizations to promote quality.

The vision is to be a leader in the community as a source of knowledge and expertise in quality and continuous improvement through curiosity, passion and learning.

Adrian’s previous work experience is quite varied – including teaching computer software to business people for fourteen years and working as a school camp teacher for fifth and sixth grade students at an outdoor education center before that.  She is a life-long educator and learner, who graduated from Michigan State University with bachelors and masters degrees in education.

Adrian lives in Charlotte, Michigan with her husband and five beagles on a 75 acre farm, where they have beehives and sell honey for a hobby.

Jean Tennis

Biography: Jean Tennis is the Quality Systems Manager  with Adrian at Capital Quality Initiative (CQI).   In 1996, she received a B.B.A. from Northwood University.  Since 1982, Jean has worked in several administrative assistant positions at Lansing Community College with Professional Development, Organizational Development and Capital Quality Initiative.  In 2006, she received the RABQSA Certified ISO 9001:2000 Lead Auditor Training with AIAG Supplier auditor Certification.   Loves to play WII with her grandchildren, gardening and antiquing.

Title: Friday Night at the ER

Date: Thursday, April 23rd

Length: 3 hours (1:15-4:15pm)

Description: Friday Night at the ER is a simulation tool for gaining powerful insight into how we work together in OurSpace. The board game can be utilized to teach:

  • Systems Thinking: managing interdependence, complexity, delay
  • Collaboration: shared accountability, coordinated action across functions
  • Innovation: working with mental models, openness to redesign
  • Use of Data: system performance data, measurement
  • Structural Thinking: designing for performance

Through the simulation you will experience the challenge of managing a hospital during a typical 24-hour period. You will perform your distinct functions in the hospital while learning how your role is a part of the whole system – in OurSpace.

Target Audience: Anyone who wants a fun immersion experience in Systems Thinking.  Health Care experience definitely not necessary!

Organizational Issues: Understanding the important role that systems thinking plays  in work and life in general.

Objectives: Gain appreciation for the necessity for systems thinking and collaboration for success in the workplace and OurSpace.
