Steve Byers

Biography:
Steve Byers received his Masters Degree in Organization Systems Design and Renewal (www.osr-nw.org) from Seattle University. He is now building a consulting practice in Olympia, Washington. As an internal and external consultant, Steve has designed and delivered workshops and seminars about feedback, inquiry, systems thinking, and organization renewal. One popular workshop is “Thinking About Thinking” which includes the Six Thinking Hats of Edward de Bono. The World Café especially interests Steve since he participated in a Café of 700 people at a Pegasus conference. He enjoys designing and working on meaningful questions with others, and the spirit of community that seems to always emerge.

Steve is deeply involved with the In2:InThinking Network, a group of people who explore how we think in organizations. He is an enthusiastic participant in the annual "Systems Thinking in Action" conferences presented by Pegasus Communications (www.pegasuscom.com), and in Olympia leads a group of local STIA participants in activities to continue the energy between national conferences. Steve invites these colleagues to a monthly First Wednesday conversation at Traditions Café.

Title: Creating OurSpace

Date: Thursday, April 23rd

Length: 3 hours (9:00-12:00pm)

Location: Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne - 6633 Canoga Avenue, Canoga Park

Cost: None

Description: An exploration of transformation; the process. At last year’s Forum, we explored Transforming My Space In2 OurSpace. In this workshop, we take a look at OurSpace and the elements within it that affect a shift. Three individual hearts/souls share three personal stories and perspectives of transformation, and facilitate small and large group exploration of the process of transformation. What is it? When do we transform? Why? Where do we transform? How do we transform? Do we need to transform? How is personal transformation
and systemic transformation related? We will explore the philosophies, attitudes, tools, and space that foster qualitative change, and together as a group, we will expand our personal definitions and desires related to the metamorphic process.

Target Audience:
We have two groups in mind:
1) Organizational Leaders who are exploring the field of organizational behavior and searching for ways to improve leadership effectiveness, ultimately desiring to build and continue to have a diverse learning organization.
2) People who are: making a difference in the world, thriving on the leading edge, constantly questioning, continuously seeking improvement, looking for the best in people, creating what happens in their lives, and actively pursuing positive organizational change.

Organizational Issues: Within a diverse group of people are diverse belief systems, perspectives, attitudes, and life experiences. As we interact and relate, weinfluence each other in the process. We become inspired by new ideas and things we have not tried or had not been exposed to before. The motivation for change is simply the deep desire in each of us to move toward the improved version, or idea of what we want in life. The change is constant. The more experiences we have, the more expanded our ideas become and the greater change we desire. The more effective we become at transforming ourselves into the new improved version of who we desire to be, the more practiced we are at the wholistic process of transformation. We then become a model of positive transformation through our behaviors and expressed thoughts. The only necessary act at any given moment is to take the next logical step toward the improvement we desire.

Objectives: Participants will take away an expanded awareness of their unique and personal process of transformation and an increased capacity to understand and be understood. Most will walk away with a change in attitude or a shift in perspective. Some will gain the insight to create a forum for doing essential work or a space for innovative contribution.
